Maui Flood Relief
On August 8, 2023, wildfires swept through Lahaina and parts of Maui, destroying communities and forever changing the island Brooks has called home for nearly four decades. Music has always been how Brooks responds to the world. This page is part of that response.
38 Years on This Island
Brooks Maguire has lived on Maui for nearly 38 years. He performed for years at venues along Front Street in Lahaina — the same streets that were reduced to ash in the fires of August 2023. The loss was not abstract. It was personal, communal, and profound.
Lahaina was more than a tourist destination. It was a living town with deep roots — home to longtime residents, small business owners, artists, and families who had built their lives there. When it burned, Maui lost something irreplaceable.
"I played Front Street for years. Those streets, those people — that was home. You don't just move on from something like that. You show up."
Brooks continues to perform on Maui every week, keeping live music alive in the community. A portion of proceeds from house concerts and special events goes toward ongoing relief and recovery efforts. The healing is long. The commitment is too.
